The NYSSRA Nordic Biathlon Junior Development Committee is pleased to announce that we will continue to provide clinic, training, and racing opportunities throughout the year to experienced Nordic skiers who are interested in getting involved with biathlon as their schedules permit. The goal is to get them involved early and give them opportunities to learn the sport now since the learning curve is a fairly long one. We hope to do this while keeping costs to parents as low as possible. The target audience is strong Nordic skiers between the ages 14-20, but exceptions will be considered on case by case basis.

We will again be holding two shooting clinics this spring. We also hope to do a fall clinic and an early winter on-snow clinic if the weather cooperates. We will continue to support skiers at local races over the winter and encourage them to participate at the World Junior Team trials over the holiday break.

The first clinic this year will be a FREE one day program dedicated to biathlon shooting at the Saratoga Biathlon Club on Saturday May 25th. We will go over proper rifle fit, position, technique & skills training with some light combination training & fun competitions. We are pleased to announce that we will again have Algis Shalna as a special guest instructor! Algis is a USBA developmental coach and an Olympic Biathlon gold medal winner!

The second FREE shooting clinic will be held in Old Forge NY on Saturday June 8th. An added bonus for this clinic is that the Polar Bear Biathlon Club will be hosting a summer biathlon (running & shooting) race the following day on 6/9/13 so the kids can put what they learned to the test right away!

**Space at the clinics will be limited so please call or send an email to Sean Halligan ASAP if you are interested. When doing so, please provide your:

Name & email address & phone number.

Experience levels with Nordic skiing and biathlon.

If you have a biathlon rifle &/or have access to one you can borrow.

**Biathlon newcomers should reply ASAP as loner rifles will be limited! If you need a rifle, make sure you tell us if you are left or right handed!

Please note that we will only be sending the firm details for each program to those people who express an interest in coming, so if you are interested you have to let us know! Tell us sooner than later, even if it is a “maybe” so we can properly plan and keep you in the loop.

Race 3/2: Ann Jardin Fund Raiser
The race is on!

Ann Jardin, a regular at past biathlon events has traded her biathlon rifle in for a shot gun and has been competing – quite successfully – in national and international trap competitions. Ann has her sights set on the Olympics in Rio, we have a chance to help with an Olympics dream and help one of our own (and have some fun along the way). The Syracuse Biathlon Club will be holding a fund raiser event for Ann on 3/2. This will be a super sprint format, with some modifications, which will consist of two races. In the first race, athletes will ski 5 x 1.2km loops, four shooting, prone-prone-standing-standing shooting, interval start, no penalty loop, time penalty will be assessed for missed shots. The overall top 8-9 athletes from the first race will qualify for the second race, a mass start, 3 x 1.2km loops, two shooting stops prone-standing, three extra rounds, sudden death penalty – you miss, you’re out. This will be a very fast course – no hills and short – so put on your power legs. Fastest overall male and female finishers will get a pie!

If you can’t make the race, please consider making a donation through the online registration form. Donations are made in increments of $5.

Agenda:

    8:00 – Registration Opens
9:00 – Zero
10:00 – 1st race start
2nd race start will depend on 1st
Awards to follow

Race registration is online: https://www.skireg.com/Net/3476 or go to skireg https://www.skireg.com/ and search for Ann Jardin fund raiser

Race will be held at Osceola: http://www.uxcski.com/, located: http://goo.gl/maps/weWze

Cost of race is $30 for pre-registration. Online registration closes Thursday, 2/28 at 6:00pm. Day of registration is $35. Registration will be at waxing building.
