The Saratoga Biathlon Club is pleased to announce a one day Biathlon clinic to be held in Lake Placid on Saturday December 14th. This clinic will be open to Nordic skiers 14 years or older who would like an introduction to the sport, and also to beginner/intermediate biathletes who would like to improve their shooting skills and range procedures.
The clinic will run from roughly 10 AM until 2:30 PM. Beginners who are will be borrowing a rifle need to arrive at 9:00 AM to be fitted for a rifle. Additional details will be provided to registered participants closer to the date of the event.
The size of the clinic will be limited to 16 participants, with an equal availability to novices and current biathletes with rifles & harnesses. A limited number of loaner rifles will be available for novice use on a first-come first-served basis. If the fields fill up please send an email to Sean Halligan (Sean@halliganci.com) to be placed on the wait list. If you sign up to borrow a rifle please be sure to send an email indicating whether you shoot right or left handed. (**Left handed participants may need to shoot right handed if we can find enough lefty rifles!)
The cost of the event will be $20 per person. In addition, each participant must bring 150 rounds of standard velocity .22 cal long rifle ammunition (may also be marked as Target). Ammunition will not be provided! (**Finding ammunition can be a challenge these days and therefore it is recommended that participants start that process ASAP!)
All participants must be USBA members. If you are not a member, you can join as a member for the day $10. If you are planning on competing this winter it’s probably in your best interest to join as a full member (supporter or competitor).
This event will hopefully take place on snow, but if the weather does not cooperate we will still hold a “dry-land” clinic. Registration can be found at: https://www.skireg.com/Net/3590/
For any questions contact Sean Halligan at Sean@halliganci.com or Tom Moffett at email@example.com
Online Registration Closes Sunday, December 08, 2013 at 9:00 PM
CRNA and Furnace Brook Winery at Hilltop Orchard combined for a wet but great kick off to the Summer 5K Trail Fun Run Series today. Despite 48 hours of continual rain with sudden heavy thunder storms yesterday and last night, the runners MUDDIED it up, rinsed off , then tasted and drank great wine, hard cider, ate great tube steaks and listened to a wonderful background band while sitting in the sun….yes the sun to take it all in!!!!!
A BIG thank you to John Vittori, Dave Martel, and Johannah for being the consummate hosts to one and all. We look forward to the next event on July 13th at Harvest Spirits Distillery in Valatie, NY
As always, Any ?s, please call or email Tom Wright at 518-567-7201, firstname.lastname@example.org
The June 9th biathlon hosted by the Polar Bear Biathlon Club is being canceled due to lack of participants. We hope that you will join us for our next biathlon on January 1, 2014. Come and enjoy the beauty of the Adirondack Mountains at McCauley Mountain Ski Center located in Old Forge, New York!
CRNA’s first summer biathlon last year had weather consisting of snow and rain….39 degrees. This past Saturday it was 90 degrees with 81% humidity….so the sprint event transitioned into an instructional clinic for the adults who attended establishing the fundamentals of the sport and shooting.
The heat and humidity however had little notice from the youth….so our paintball biathlon race was on! A number of youth ran a pursuit format with most shooting prone (who can blame them!)
The event was thoroughly enjoyed by the adults who watched the shooting technique and hits improve each time the youth entered the range!!
A BIG thanks to Pat Clancy and Chris Rulon for helping out with all sorts of event logistics! Hope to see you all at our event on August 3rd!
There are still a couple of openings left for the junior shooting clinic set for next Saturday, so if you are a junior biathlete or a strong junior skier (13 or older) interested in becoming one, please contact Sean Halligan or Carl Klossner ASAP. Details will be sent out early next week to those who have requested a spot at the clinic.
Everyone is welcome to sign up for the summer baihtlon race the following day, Sunday 6/9/13! Novice racers are welcome. Event details & registration at:
Hope to see you there.

The Polar Bear Biathlon Club is preparing to host a modified pursuit biathlon race on June 9th at the McCauley Mountain Ski Center. Sport and Competition Classes are available for all racers. The race course will be almost entirely on the Nordic trails. Prizes will be awarded for the top three in each class. First time biathletes are welcome and there are a few loaner rifles for those that want to give it a try. This is a four shooting, prone-prone-standing-standing, race. Pre-registration can be done on Skireg.com. Race fee is $18 pre-registered before 5 p.m. June 8th, $25 day of race. Hope that we will see you in Old Forge on June 9th!
The NYSSRA Nordic Biathlon Junior Development Committee is pleased to announce that we will continue to provide clinic, training, and racing opportunities throughout the year to experienced Nordic skiers who are interested in getting involved with biathlon as their schedules permit. The goal is to get them involved early and give them opportunities to learn the sport now since the learning curve is a fairly long one. We hope to do this while keeping costs to parents as low as possible. The target audience is strong Nordic skiers between the ages 14-20, but exceptions will be considered on case by case basis.
We will again be holding two shooting clinics this spring. We also hope to do a fall clinic and an early winter on-snow clinic if the weather cooperates. We will continue to support skiers at local races over the winter and encourage them to participate at the World Junior Team trials over the holiday break.
The first clinic this year will be a FREE one day program dedicated to biathlon shooting at the Saratoga Biathlon Club on Saturday May 25th. We will go over proper rifle fit, position, technique & skills training with some light combination training & fun competitions. We are pleased to announce that we will again have Algis Shalna as a special guest instructor! Algis is a USBA developmental coach and an Olympic Biathlon gold medal winner!
The second FREE shooting clinic will be held in Old Forge NY on Saturday June 8th. An added bonus for this clinic is that the Polar Bear Biathlon Club will be hosting a summer biathlon (running & shooting) race the following day on 6/9/13 so the kids can put what they learned to the test right away!
**Space at the clinics will be limited so please call or send an email to Sean Halligan ASAP if you are interested. When doing so, please provide your:
- Name & email address & phone number.
- Experience levels with Nordic skiing and biathlon.
- If you have a biathlon rifle &/or have access to one you can borrow.
**Biathlon newcomers should reply ASAP as loner rifles will be limited! If you need a rifle, make sure you tell us if you are left or right handed!
Please note that we will only be sending the firm details for each program to those people who express an interest in coming, so if you are interested you have to let us know! Tell us sooner than later, even if it is a “maybe” so we can properly plan and keep you in the loop.
